The Met Gala is typically held on the first Monday in May, but this year, the event made a comeback in the middle of fashion month after a pandemic-induced hiatus. Gigi Hadid returned to the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art following the theme “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion”. In other words, one of the most famous fashion events was all about celebrating American fashion. Gigi wore a custom Prada ivory silk gown with contrasting duchesse black bodice and a thigh-high split in the back, paired with crystal embellished slingbacks pumps, black beaded tights and leather gloves. Her look was inspired by the 60’s American Vogue. “Prada wants to celebrate the simplicity of American designers and how they do what they do so well”, she said on the red carpet.
Gigi’s stylist, Mimi Cuttrell, added some sparkles to her look with a one-of-a-kind diamond necklace by Jacob & Co. It’s part of the high jewelry collection, adorned with over 118 carats of round diamonds. She also wore diamond stud earrings. As for her hair, Gigi made a statement by making a dramatic red hair debut. All credits go to hair stylist Esther Langham and colorist Keith Shore. Her hair was styled in a voluminous ponytail adorned with a crystal-embellished Prada hair clip.
